The test itself lasts for
approximately 35 to 40 minutes.
The first part is the eyesight test and then they test your
ability to drive a car.
The eyesight test requires you to satisfy the examiner that,
in good daylight, you can read a vehicle number-plate with
letters 79.4mm (3.1 inches) high at a minimum distance of
20.5 metres (approx. 67 feet). If you are unable to read the
number plate, you will fail your driving test and the test
will go on no further.
The examiner will then ask you two vehicle safety questions
(commonly known as 'Tell me, Show me'). You will then be
examined on your general driving and on TWO reversing
exercises.
The reversing exercises will be chosen from:
- Reversing around a corner
- Turning in the road
- Reverse parking
You may also be asked to carry out
an emergency stop exercise.
Once your test is over, the examiner will tell you if you
have passed or failed and offer to debrief you.
